Main Street Lockport, Inc. (MSL) is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization established in 1991. Its mission is to work to support the beauty, history, economic vitality and enjoyment of the historic downtown as a destination for the community and visitors.
Visit Lockport was established as the promotional arm of Main Street Lockport to support downtown businesses, dining, shops, events and feature the Historic District as a premier destination for visitors.
John Lamb was a driving force behind Lockport’s historic preservation and the “well-preserved canal town” we enjoy today. He served as President of Lockport’s Heritage & Architecture Commission. A Professor Emeritus from Lewis University, John founded the Adelmann Regional History Collection, from which many of the images on this website are found. John served on the Illinois State Historical Society Board of Directors and submitted Lockport’s application to become a National Register Historic District in 1975. Among his artistic pursuits, John was an author, folk art wood carver and created the Old Canal Days festival, still going strong in its 5th decade. John was a Director and past President of Main Street Lockport. Always willing to donate time, we thank you for your service, friend of Lockport, John Lamb.
